A beautiful pair of late Victorian or early Edwardian reverse crystal intaglio cufflinks of a dog, most likely a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or a Pekinese. A great deal of workmanship is required in making these “Essex crystal” cufflinks. Rock crystal cabochons were carefully carved from the back and then hand-painted so that when they are viewed from the top, they appear three-dimensional. These were deeply carved, with lots of details throughout. They were backed with a piece of mother-of-pearl and set within 14K gold frames. The chain link is stamped “14K” for gold purity. A really nice piece of history that can also be converted into pendants so they can be worn today!
