A Georgian era 10K gold and enamel ouroboros snake mourning brooch circa 1815.  From 1810 to 1815, there was a brief trend for mourning jewelry decorated with black enamel ouroboros snakes with crosshatched golden ‘skins’ symbolizing eternity.  In the center of this brooch is a smooth carnelian stone, most likely a later replacement.  The inscription in the back writes “Insclosed are the relics of an affectionate husband and a beloved daughter who died April 4th 1815. M. Hamilton. Intered to one grave.”  A rare, sentimental piece of jewelry that stands the test of time over 200 years later!

Measurements: 0.8” long by 1” wide

Condition: In very good antique condition with minor age related wear.
