A beautifully enameled vintage duck brooch crafted in 18K yellow gold with diamond accents. This large statement bird pin showcases plique-a-jour enamel wings with incredible gradations of color transitioning from shades of blue to white. Plique a jour is one of the most difficult enamel techniques to master - the enamel is like stained glass without any metal behind it, allowing maximum light to pass through.
A shimmery taupe enamel covers the body, with green enamel for his head. Brilliant cut diamonds are set along the duck’s neck and wing. The diamonds are bright and clean, weighing a total of approximately 0.42 carats. The gold surrounding the diamonds is blackened to create a contrast between the stones and its background.
The back of the pin is stamped “18K” for the gold purity marks, along with an unidentified hallmark. Rings were soldered behind the wings later to allow a chain attachment so it could be worn as a pendant.
