An exceptional antique Victorian era snake necklace showcasing glowing natural opals and old mine cut diamonds, as well as a pear shaped emerald drop. There are five bright old cut diamonds that weigh a total of approximately 0.61 carats and a vibrant cabochon emerald that dangles from the snake’s mouth. The two opals display fiery flashes of violet and green hues.
Beautiful scrolled designs are engraved throughout the top of the snake’s head. The necklace is composed of a rare Georgian era 18K gold belcher chain that was likely added later to the Victorian era 14K gold snake head. The Victorians often reused and repurposed their heirloom jewels in this way. The texture of this chain is just so gorgeous! It lays beautifully on the neck and would make an excellent addition to any collection.
