A spectacular Edwardian era Australian opal and diamond necklace with components allowing the piece to convert into a brooch! The central opal reminds me of a vibrant underwater oceanscape, displaying glowing pastel blues and greens with bright flashes of yellow and orange. The large stone measures 27mm long by 14.7 mm wide. Old single cut diamonds are set around the opal, weighing a total of approximately 0.75 carats. They are G/H in color and VS/SI1 in clarity, overall. Behind the pendant, there is a screw component by the bail allowing the chain to be removed so the piece could be worn as a brooch. The brooch is made in platinum while the delicate filigree chain is in 18K white gold. The chain measures 21 inches in length and the spring ring is stamped “18K” for gold purity.
Metal: Platinum Brooch and 18K White Gold Chain (acid tested)
Weight: 13.5 grams
Opal: 27 mm long by 14.7 mm wide
Diamonds: Approximately 0.75 carats
Chain Length: 21 inches long
Pendant/Brooch Measurements: 1.9 inches long (including bale) by 0.8 inches wide
Markings: “18K” on chain clasp
Condition: In fair antique condition. Some minor scratches and nicks to the front of the opal, not really visible unless carefully louped. The back of the opal shows some crazing, as shown in the photos. The screwing mechanism works well. Please send us a message if you'd like a video or more pictures of this piece!
